Montgomery, Alabama (February 7, 2006) - Alfa Insurance today announced it will offer a $10,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in the suspected arson of a number of rural Alabama churches. In addition, Alfa’s standard church insurance policy provides for a $7,500 reward for information leading to a conviction for each church covered by Alfa Insurance, which could result in an additional $37,500 in reward money.
“We are appalled by these cowardly acts. It’s nothing less than domestic terrorism and a direct attack on our way of life,” said Jerry A. Newby, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alfa Insurance.
Alfa Insurance is a leading insurer of rural churches in the state. At least five of the nine West Alabama churches that burned since last weekend were covered by Alfa.
The $10,000 reward applies to an arson conviction for any of the fires. The additional $7,500 reward would apply to an arson conviction for each of the churches covered by Alfa Insurance.
Alfa and its affiliates provide insurance and other financial services to more than 1 million customers in 13 states.
